    Hey everyone,

I have an older HP machine with windows XP. my ISP is Time Warner Road Runner, and I dont use a router.

My problem is that the internet drops after 15 minutes of being connected. The only way to get it back is to unplug the modem and plug it back in 30 seconds later.

Ive called road runner, and they have tested everything on their end, and they say that everything working, and it must be my computer.

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

    Thanks!

How about you ask for a replacement modem?

Unless you have to pay for it..

What's the ethernet lan chipset your computer uses. Is it over heating?

This reminds me of something like this before...

Assuming that your modem is hooked up to your computer via a LAN cable, see if you can force either 10mbps or 100mbps in device manager for your network card.

Right click 'My Computer', click 'Manage', click 'Device Manager' in the left column of the window that opens up, in the right column, expand the 'Network adapters' listing, and right-click the network card that connects to your modem, and go to 'Properties', and in the 'Advanced' tab, see if there is an option to select speed and duplex, and just pick an option so it's not on automatic.

Humm that would be insane if its from the ISP. I dont think I have ever seen a lease under 6 hours. The ISP must be growing fast. Anyways, most of the time if its DHCP problems could be firewall, or from changing computers on one modem over and over and last is when you get no connection.

That website should help if it is a short lease. I also could be wrong ISPs are always doing new stuff.

When you lose your connection do the lights on the modem begin flashing like when you first plug it in?

Ask a friend to bring a computer to your house, and connect that computer to the router (contact your ISP and make sure the new MAC address is added to their access list, if necessary). If that computer doesn't have any problems, then you know there's an issue with your computer.
