I'm buying a Dell Laptop online as I can't pass up a 7900 GS system for $1200(after the 25% off).

A couple questions. I started reading stickies but I don't have time. Sorry.

    1. Is the IntelPRO 3945 a/g really $30 better than the Dell 1390 b/g? Will I really notice a difference?

I'll primarily be using the onboard card just to pick up my buddies router next door for day to day internet, until I get mine hooked up. I'm pretty sure his router is a b frequency. As long as it will still pick up the signal good.

    2. Will I realistically utilize the ridiculous resolution of the Ultrasharp UXGA LCD option if I chose to drop another $150 on it?

I think I'd rather get another GIG a RAM for the price. I don't even think I can run any kick ass games on 2000 lines.

Any advice on this purchase is welcome. Here's my specs. I know I can't beat this price.

    E1705
    T5200 Core 2 Duo (1.6 gig)
    1GB RAM
    Nvidia 7900 GS

    $1600-25%= $1200 such a sick deal

I think I'll get a better battery too.

1- Maybe not $30 better... I have seen the intel do better overall though.
2- I doubt you would want to run that high a res on just a 17" screen, it would be a pretty heavy strain on your eyes. I'd go for more RAM and a bigger battery pack, and get an external 19" or bigger flat panel for superultrahighres graphics.

EDIT: Great minds do indeed think alike abaxter =)

    1) For $30 difference, no it's not worth "upgrading" to the Intel. Heck, you could buy the Intel Mini PCI card for about $50 I believe if the Dell wireless card turned out to be a disaster -- but it'll work fine so no risks.

    2) No, most people that get UXGA end up regretting it because the text is so very small. I'd save the money and upgrade the RAM to 2GB.
