    1) What is your budget?

    1-200$

    2) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.

    Japan

    3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

Linksys I like but hard to come across in Japan (buying from www.rakuten.co.jp)

    4) What tasks will you be performing with the router?

Downloading heavily as well as uploading heavily. Would like good range with it seeing as the house is massive even by north american standards.

    5) Will you be taking the router with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

It will sit in the corner.

    6) Will you be playing games online?

    Yes, Leage DOD player

    7) Do you mind buying online without seeing the router in person?

    Not at all

    8) What OS do you run? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Windows XP, Vista, and at times linux CURRENTLY NO Wireless N in any of the notebooks

    Build Quality and Design

    9) Are the router's looks and stylishness important to you?

Preferably black but doesnt really matter

    10) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?

ASAP and as long as possible

    Router Components

    11) How fast is your connection?

100MB/S and I WANT ALL THE SPEED I CAN GET!

    12) Do you need good protection?

Yes.. every router I have come upon in Japan appears to have the pasword "admin" making them easy to acess...

    13) Anything else

Basically I have a 100mb/s connection ( which may speed up to far higher speeds in the near future) and would like a future proof good range highspeed wireless router. I currently have only wireless ABG based systems but N may be on the way.

    Thanks for the help! :D

Don't have the time to answer this.

    DONT BUY BELKIN, Their JUNK.

Go to SmallNetBuilder.com and read there review. And play close attention to symintanoius connection. There is a Dlink out that maxed out the tester, in the low cost 11n HW.

As for PW they are sent from the factory with a simple one. Change it to any think you like, and change often.

For a Network that will be pounded heavly I recommend buy a SMB Wired router, then add a AP for your wireless. You can use a wireless router for the AP. With heavy use they heat up and bussiness class hardware is design for that. Residential hardware is not but some do better than others.

Your dreaming, GigE does not even deliver this.

I thought that GigE supported upto 1000 Mb/s.... and that is my connection speed FTTH...

    thanks for reply

Sorry kind of a n00b with routers :p, having a bit of trouble finding it on the site >.<

It would be great if you had time if you could recommend a specific model from here

The search box is on top type in a model number and bang resaults should pop up if its available in Japan.. Unfourtunatly the main suppliers of routers here are Belkin, Buffalo, Logitech ( seems like cheap to be the true logitech) and Corega ...][

    Cheers

A GigE is 1000mbps not MB/sec and that before overhead. With normal speed in the < 70MB/sec. With 100BaseT 12.5MB/sec before overhead, FTP will give you around 8-9MB/sec. With SMB in the 4MB/sec.

As far as picking one that your job. Buffalo makes some good cheap hardware. Most install dd-wrt firmware. So before buying check to see what is supported.
