I went on my computer today, and I was having an issue where skype would connect to the internet, but nothing else would, and the network connection would constantly look like it's refreshing. This is usually a recurring problem for me; I just leave it on for 10 minutes or so and it fixes itself. However, this time, it fixed itself, but my browsers won't connect. Firefox, Chrome, and IE all give a "problem loading page" message, even though I have a connection and the internet works fine on my desktop. But this time, in addition to skype, Meebo Notifier and Steam would connect (I could even play games online), and I can ping any website. Connecting with an ethernet cable doesn't help, and neither does bypassing the router. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Check to see if your DNS settings are good. Another issue can be MTU. Def is 1500 but most ISP use 1492. I think Spype may require you to lower a little more.

    from a cmd prompt:
    ping (your router)
ping yahoo.com (if no response Bad DNS)
ping 72.30.2.43 (if no response bad gateway)

Definitely sounds like a DNS issue. Skype doesn't use DNS, so it wouldn't affect that. It just uses for the most part, port 80 to communicate on the Internet.

Along with what blue mentioned above, I would suggest going to the Start menu ---> All Programs ---> Accessories. Look for Command Prompt, right click it and select the Run As Admin.... option. In the CMD window, while connected to the network type ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter, then type ipconfig /registerdns and hit enter. Make sure you have all Internet Browsers closed prior to this then try the Internet again.
