I hope this is the right thread... I've posted this question in several other forums with no definitive answer. To begin, I have a Compaq 515 Energy Star Notebook running Win7 Home Premium 64 bit ~ I upgraded (custom install) from Vista Home Basic 32 bit [the problem was there too]. The problem, more of an annoyance, is my Wlan device, Broadcom 802.11 b/g, shows up on boot as a removable device just like a jump drive which I can remove [safely remove device] with no problem. My wireless connection goes down for an instance then comes right back up (HP Wireless Assistant). Like I said, it's not a major problem, just an odd annoyance. I'd like it not to show up every time I boot. Solutions on other forums have been to upgrade the driver and the bios, both of which according to the HP Updater, are up-to-date. One other solution given was to install a different driver or software for the Wlan which I'm reluctant to do; because, one the Wlan works just fine connection-wise and two, I wouldn't have the foggiest on how to go about replacing it. If you're still with me after having read all the above gobbily-goop, and you don't have a solution then just say hello. I'm beginning to think I'm posting in invisible ink. I'm also almost perplexed at this problem since I've found some great solutions to serious problems in the past (usually Vista related) on forums very similar to this one. :) SB644

    Hello ;)

I would suggest using windows to manage the wi-fi connection rather than the HP Wireless Assistant

Hey Tomcat57. So uninstall the HP Wireless Assistant? The Wlan showed up in the task bar as 'removable' before I started using the HP Wireless Assistant. Thanks for responding.
