My laptop is a brand new F3JP. Its very nice looking and has excellent features, although since I bought it on Saturday it has'nt performed in some respects which are very important and my Dell 6400 worked like clockwork with.
The wireless issue: I have a wireless network which uses WEP encryption. When I first got my laptop I thought there was something wrong with it because it would not see the wireless network no matter what. The only way it would see the network and thus allow me to connect to it is if I disable all security on my router - not something id like to keep as a permanent solution.

I noticed if I then enable security again it will work for a couple of hours, then all of a sudden it will refuse to connect to the network(although it may now see it). THe only way to get it working again is to disable security?

My dell machine picks the network up with no problems at all and never disconnects. I am running Windows Vista Premium. I also have latest drivers from Intel..

Any help would be very much appreciated as it is a new laptop and I am so disappointed it always stuffs up like this =\

Whenever you see that, it might be a WiFi card driver issue or a router firmware issue. Is this WEP RADIUS (asks for username and password) or WEP with pre-shared key (asks for just password)?

Try going to ASUS' website and getting the WiFi drivers for the F3Jp. Maybe the ones on the image are old...

Several problems have been reported problems with WEP and Vista, switching to WPA fixed the problem.

Also check to see if you firewall is not blocking the subnet you are trying to connect to.

I have a Netcom NB600W router. I have switched off the firewall on the system. Do you guys think it may be a hardware issue and I should take to the vendor? Because when there is no security the laptop can see the network ok, but still I even noticed last night it would get very very low speeds.

Vista is a pain in the butt to setup. You need to go through the port connections to get it to work. I never could get the add a network connection to work. I could not get the WEP to work at all, WPA worked with out a problem.

I've not tried WEP, but WPA-PSK/TKIP set up without a hitch on my Vista.
