I just purchased a used HP Pavilion dv 1550se Notebook and it didn't come with a manual. The previous owner said it was used for about 10 hrs so many of the features haven't been utilized.

I am trying to set up the wireless as it has an internal card but don't now where to start. Tried going to HP site but no luck.

    Anyone have the same laptop?

No, I do not. There is a wi-fi button but pressing does nothing. Just for the heck of it I installed an external card and it worked fine. Really don't want to leave it like that.

I truly understand. Are you sure that this has the built in wireless card? You should be able to turn it over and remove the panels on bottom and behind one should be a mini pci slot with a wireless card. These can be removed, upraded or even downgraded. Once a visual verification is made, and one does exists I would check and try to locate the drivers for it. then Make sure its enabled in bios. GL

    Sykotic,

I thought it had Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11 WLAN installed. I went to the HP site and down loaded the drivers as suggested. It came to life and now I have wireless.

    Thans for the advice!

Still missing the owners's manual. Would love to get my hands on one.

Anyone have a site that sells older owner's manuals?

It's difficult determining what this notebook will do. For instance I have 2 quick launch buttons. One is supposed to be for Quick play and another for DVD.

Anyone have any info on these buttons? I'm guessing that the DVD button might allow me to watch a DVD without booting up the laptop.

not familiar with HP/Compaq lines. I did buy a 1.6pm/512m/40g for $150 because it has a bootpassword enabled. No one knew the password. I took out the both batteries, about an hour process, fixed it, reinstalled, refreshened it and sold it for $350.
