I just was wondering about how people normally use their BT-enabled phones with their BT-enabled laptops? What sorts of convenience/features do you gain by being able to connect your phone with your lappy?

I have to admit, I've found it easier to simply use a cable!

once connected, you can backup your contacts and such easily (assuming you have some software provided by the cell phone maker), and then add new contacts without having to type on the cell phone. that's about all I do with it.

You might have better luck asking in a cell phone forum. I'm on one called www.howardforum.com and it's a really good site to talk about phones and bluetooth. I use mine to transfer custom ringtones or wallpapers.

I stick with a cable connection - faster transfer, it powers up my PDA phone, and I don't have to worry about the BT stack wreaking havok.

You guys are all right about this, but when you have friends over and you all have different phones, but you also all have bluetooth that supports file transfer, it becomes extremely convenient. You could always transfer files to your phone via cable, then bluetooth it to their phone, but why not skip a step if you can?
