Hey all, i finally am giving bittorrent a try. Setup everything after a few minor headaches and my question to you is what ideally should my download speed be when I'm done setting everything up? I'm getting about 140 kb/s, which is 80% of my download speed...I set my peak to around here, but I just wanted to makesure I have this setup and this speed isn't considered slow or anything...Im a newbie to all networking and bit torrent so please keep it simple in responses. Thanks

It really depends on how many people are seeding it. 140kb is quite good actually.

while your connection speed is important, the biggest factor is how fast everybody your leeching from is uploading and how many people your connected too.

I get as low as 2kb/s on crappy torrents and as high as 1.2mb/s on a good one (like new bleach episodes)

My max download is 15mb/s tho so im not even close to my max download speed, never am for anything other than a gigabit speedtest server.

Also your upload speed dramticlly effects your downloads, they have these things setup the more you share the more you get, and if you download and never upload (leecher) some torrent servers can ban you.

I always seed @ 150kb/s untill I am at atleast a 1:1 share ratio with each file, my overall share ratio is nearly 3:1 tho.

I'm using DSL with download speeds set at 130 kbs and uploads at 54. i did the speed test and divided it into kb/s and then set downloads to 80% of my limit so I can still browse the net. I just wanted to get an idea of good speeds. How do I increase my file ratio/ number of people I'm downloading from?

    Verizon Fios, its Fiber Optic.

The 15/2 is like 45$ a month (40$ with discount because they are my phone service)

There is a 30/4 aswell but its like 200$ why charge 4x more for 2x the speed?? I cant jusitfy that :p

Not to mention the highest download I ever get is like 2mb/s from a fast server, there is simply nothing hardly out there on the net that will let you use 15mb/s down.

You speed sounds great for your connection. You just have a much slower connection than me. Its really based off your upload alot, If I could just have a 4mb/s upload Id raise my seed level to 300kb/s and probably be able to pull over 2mb/s on a torrent with alot of uploaders.

Your connection seems good... :) what you can do to have more speed... is to change your internet connection package or provider then... :) if you use something like ViciousXUSMC use n get that kind of speed... then there something wrong with it... but now its look good for me... :)

but as i'm using utorrent... some setting can be made to use all the download speed... :) but for bit comet... i'm not too sure...
