That's a hard task actually- budget is kind of tight.
I would recommend a TP-Link WR941ND router- it's basically a TL-WR1043ND without gigabit Ethernet and USB and with reduced flash memory.

Still you get the same Atheros AR9132 400MHz CPU, 32MB RAM, 300mbps Wi-Fi with three detachable antennas.
TP-Link is pretty reliable when it comes to firmware and this router is also supported by DD-WRT.
All of that for $45-50 depending on a retailer.

EnGenius ESR9850 300Mbps Wireless N Router with Gigabit Switch Reviewed - SmallNetBuilder

    its 60 though

EDIT: honestly though going cheap on routers is bad. Also good on you coming here and asking. I could have saved myself tons of money if i knew about this site long ago and asking. Gone through 3 crappy routers/aps in the last 2 years and i could have just bought one through that whole time if i knew about this site and smallnetbuilders...sigh

I am very satisfied with my 15 bucks TP-LINK rebatched 150N router, better than my WRT54G, so cheap doesn't necessary mean bad.

Yes it's single band. $55 seems pretty reasonable.
It's good mid-range hardware- I hope it's going to serve you well.
