I spend the night in a hotel at least 10 nights a month. I just got a new notebook and would like internet in the hotel.

Some have free wired or wireless, but not all. Any suggestions on a good, cheap service that allows unlimited connection time? The hotels I stay in are all over the country, mostly east of the Mississippi. I live in Ohio. I would need a service that has lots of local access numbers all over this half of the country, basically.

I'm pretty turned off my AOL after they kept charging my credit card after canceling (couple years ago).

    Thanks.

Hmm.. Since your gone so much, maybe consider getting a PCIMAI Card that you can have wireless across the country and get rid of your current internet. If you dont want to do that, Earthlink might be ok, or Netzero. There arent going to be fast but there dial up.

If you've got broadband service at home, find out if they offer complimentary dialup service. I've got Earthlink cable and they offer unlimited toll free dialup service.

I've had Earthlink cable at home, but when I signed up a year ago they did offer such a service. I can also get Time Warner cable, but I believe their complementary dial service is AOL.

I will have to look into Earthlinks promos.

I thought about the PCIMAI cards. I'm not sure I want to spend $60 per month for it (Verizon). I thought I might be able to get dial up for around $10-$15. Not sure how the speed compares though.

Verizon wireless is very fast at 2000Kbps when dial up is 56Kbps. Its worth it since its coast to coast wireless, and is 18times faster.

For cheap (and good) dialup available all over the USA you cannot beat www.all2easy.net for $4.95/month for unlimited time. If you sign up tell them you were referred by:

ismeoui [at] all2easy [dot] net .... written that way to avoid bots that scour the net for addresses. Convert to the normal form.

They have access numbers in towns that some others do not. In fact I found them when I was looking for dialup service in Killeen, TX.

If you're referring to VZW's EVDO internet access via thier cell network, I wouldn't say it's 2000kbps. I have it and it's more like 450, and EVDO is only available in some cities. Other areas drop back to ~128kbps. Still beats dial up, I guess...

Earthlink's dial-up numbers should work if you already have an account. Just use the number and your userID/pw. I do this all the time when traveling, though I have the Earthlink DSL service.

We used to have an emergency account with a company called Hawk Communications, they had a ton of numbers for even the smallest cities, for $10/month or somthing like that. They've been bought out, but I'm sure it's still fine.

In case you haven't checked out all2easy.net yet, I might add that NO CONTRACT is required - you just pay month to month, so if after the first month you do not like it, just cancel. Plus there are NO SETUP FEES!

I'll check out your suggestions. What about Net Zero?

It looks like I may be able to get included dial up with my Earthlink cable, but only 20 hours per month. I found no details on going over the 20.

I may eventually go with the Verizon card, but I just don't want to spend $59.99 plus taxes and fees when I'm only going to use it 5-10 days a month.
