I was wondering if anyone knows where the best deal on a Linksys WRT54GL is? As of now Newegg is the only place i've looked at and i think they retail for 69.99. I do anticipate doing the DD-WRT hack so im assuming the GL model is the one Ill need, since the newer versions of the WRT54G arent as good.

$65 shipped on newegg is a decent deal for a good wireless router. Check ebay for better deals

You can also try heading to T-mobile, and seeing if they still have WRT54G-TM's in stock. They have more memory and a larger flash than the GL's.

They are $20. You might have to lie to them a little though, and say it's for your roomie with a T-mobile phone (They ask for a phone number). When I went in, I said I didn't have his number on me, and they asked for mine (verizon). They still let me go home with it.

It's very much worth a shot, and installing DD-WRT is pretty easy.

I heard the TM ones are not DD-WRT compatible.

They require a workaround if you don't use a JTAG cable, but I can assure you that they are completely compatible. (I had DD-WRT installed within two hours of buying it)

The great part is, you can install DD-WRT Mega builds on it, which have more features (because of the larger flash).

$70 is too much for that router. During Christmas time Newegg had the same thing for $57 and free shipping. The WRT54GL is just the WRT54G version 4 re-released to cater to the enthusist crowd(which I am a part of :D). So basically to save some money you can go on ebay and buy a WRT54G version 1 through 4(getting later versions can be a pain/bad since they have reduced memory and can be a problem getting DD-WRT on or not at all) and get a great router for a great price. These are all DD-WRT(opensource firmware compatible), as are other routers like the WRT54GS version 1 through 3. Check out this page and do some research on the web to find out which routers work well with DD-WRT. Thats what I did and wound up getting a great router with a boat load of memory for a great price on ebay. I have Tomato on my router running great. I also didn't want to pay the price for the one on Newegg.
