I am planning to get a wireless router and not sure which one to get.

I am fixing an old desktop to give to my 3 yr old and make that have wireless connection due to his room setup.
I also plan to use wireless for gaming once I finally get a laptop in a few weeks.
I am also planning to keep my desktop wired at this time.

I have heard either the D-Link 4300 or the Linksys WRT54G.

What I need for this router to do:
    • Great connection for gaming
    • extra port to keep 1 PC Wired!
    • Durable and Reliable

So Which is the BEST Wireless Gaming Router that has an extra port to keep 1 PC Wired and 2 others wireless?

    PS:
What wireless card should I get for my son's PC so it can be connected to this router that I am looking for?

I have the Linksys SRX200 with MIMO. It has the same performance throughout my 2 story house and it never drops connections. I always have super low ping on games. You can wire up to 4 and wireless up to like 193 or something insane.

You knwo what I was looking around and stumbled upon the Belkin Pre-N
Anyone has any info/experience on it?

So far I got it down to 3 Rouetsr now:
    Belkin Pre-N (upto 108mbs) = $89.99 (Adapter NOT included)

LINKSYS WKUSB54GS (upto 54mbps Data Rate) = $93.99 (Adapter included)
    (I think this is just a WRT54GS bundled w/ a card?)

LINKSYS WRT54GX2 (upto 108mbps Data Rate) = $99.99 (Adapter NOT included)
If money was no object, which would be the BEST one to use?

no doubt the the WRT54GX2, good routers, for the max speed though you need the matching SRX card for your PC or laptop, but even with your standard card the range and signal is significantly better

because I'm speaking from numbers, not just by personal preference(though Linksys is my main choice for routers if not Cisco). I have replaced countless routers with new linksys gear due to being broken ,having ****py range, or just not working right. I the brands I've seen the most problems with and switched to Linksys most often have been D-Link and Belkin. And yes selling, installing, and maintaining these things, is a good part of how I make a living.

Well from my choices I decided on giving the Belkin Pre-N a chance and will buy it this weekend.
What I liked about it is in the reviews I have read, the Belkin Pre-N was the bst overall in performance.
The Lifetime Warranty was also a big plus to it :D
Think I am going to get it at CircuitCity instead of NewEgg so I can return it promptly in case soemthing goes wrong.
It only cost about $10-20 more anyways.

A friend of mine has the Belkin. The speed is pretty fast, and you get connection throughout most of the house. (their house is pretty big, it's like 3000 sqft) and you even get connection in the room above the garage (accross the house) It will drop occasionally, but then you just right click the wireless thingy in the taskbar, hit repair, then it's fixed again!

A friend just bought the D-Link, so I'll evaluate it this weekend. However, i know a few people who have the Belkin Pre-N. They all love it.

Linksys is nice...sometimes. I have a Ver. 3 WRT54. It's cool for people like me who want to customize it and such, but I wouldn't recommend that model to the casual user. It's also nowhere near the speed/range of the Belkin. The WRT54Gx2 or whatever...also has it's own large number of problems. Reliability being the biggest concern. One of the Belkin owners had one previously. Got it on sale at Best Buy. Range sucked. Took it back and exchanged it. Next one had a constant rebooting issue...I'm talking like the D-Link 624's were known for. It was ridiculous.

The Pre-N is a nice unit. Physically, it's one of the most well-built routers I've seen on the home user level in a long time. Configuration was easy(much better than their older AP's and such). Range even on a 802.11g network was noticeably better. Connection is dead stable and we've run up to 4 people playing BF2 through one, all online via a TimeWarner Roadrunner connection(which is like 6Mb down, maybe 1 or less up?). If I try that on my WRT54...it chokes. It can barely keep up with two people running it at the same time. 3 puts it over the edge.

The D-Link's Game Fuel is a nice feature. I'll have to see how it works. I'm not sure if the Belkin Pre-N offers a similar feature, but I don't think so. It just is very good at managing the packets overall and seems to handle everything fine.
