I'd like to know what you all think is the best wifi card available for laptops these days.
Right now I'm using the killer n/a/ac 1535 which has worked ok for me. I used a driver from killer that did not include the control center or any bloatware. However I just bought an intel 8265 as I heard these are better. I could however return it still and am just trying to learn more.

@openglcg I'd suggest Intel 9260 / Killer 1550, wth 1733Mbps 802.11ac & Bluetooth 5 they are much more future-proof.

Killer 1550 / 9260 seem to have trouble maintaining that connection speed, so in essence your a BETA tester for that product.
Lots of people seem to like the Killer 1525, older but didnt have any issues with connection speed to the router.Papusan likes this. -
Whats the maximum data thru-put before the receiving computer cannot write the data to its HDD?

@TheReciever 9260/1550 will get better, while 8265/1525/1535 won't and are just poor investment.

Depends on the computer and hdd
There is no guarantee that the 1550 will get better, that much is an assumption on your part. -
Try it, if anything I’ve seen multiple people replace 1535/6174A for 8265ac cards due to Qualcomm Athetos drivers and then you also have people of the opposite experience. Lots of factors go into it like AP compatibility, laptop antenna placement etc. You may have better experience with one card or the other, so don’t go with blanket statements like one is better than the other. I found out through experiences of others, as I never used to recommend the 6174A/1535A but found some people that had decent experiences with it but opposite with the Intel cards. My father for example works in a large corp (Medtronic) where they switch laptops every 3 years or so and a vast majority of their Latitudes and Precisions have Intel cards ranging from the 7265-8265ac without issues. I myself also have had no problems but you will find others who have issues in different systems, so try it out yourself and see.
Honestly though if prices are lower for generic, I would just buy the Qualcomm 6174A (1535) or Intel 9260ac (1550) directly without the “Killer” re-branding as they make neither these cards nor the drivers and if you don’t use their suite you don’t really gain anything. I find the suite causes more issues (my experience helping some people, others may like it and may have better experiences) than it’s worth including DPC latency issues. Even my Dell which didn’t have a Killer card came with a Killer prioritization software (SmartByte) which caused bandwidth headaches and latency issues ironically and even Dell support asks you to remove it lol when people complain about “slow browsing”.Last edited: Apr 1, 2018Starlight5 and downloads like this.
