Im about to purchase a Dell Inspiron E1705 with these specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB) :)
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
    80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS :D

My main question is what router and wireless card would be best to have a home network for the fastest lag free gaming. I have a cable modem, and only one PC and my laptop will be connected to the router.

I was thinking of going to best buy to purchase a router and I saw two that i thought were good. My budget is about $150. Also if i could find one thats portable without losing speed that would be nice too.

    Routers:
    Linksys Wireless-G 802.11g Cable Gateway

Linksys Wireless-N Wireless Router with 4-Port Switch

I have heard some bad things about wireless-n routers although their range is greater. Which would be the best purchase for gaming, or is there a better router?

    Wireless cards:

Should I stick with the built in - Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps), is it sufficient for these routers?

or should I upgrade to the - Dell Draft N Internal Wireless (50% faster and 25% more range when used with 802.11g routers)?

I have a Linksys-G WiFi and I game in the same room where the router is. Sometimes I have problems but in general it works well. I've been told if I plug it in directly I would get better speeds but have yet to see if that is true.

As far as the new Wireless-N routers that are coming out, my suggestion is to wait. The final specification has not even been approved and many manufcturers are jumping the gun. Reviews of routers from Netgear and Linksys has not been positive.

From what I've heard the Wireless-N will be able to reach 10x further than Wireless-G. But just like Luar said manufacturers are jumping the gun. If you can, wait. If not go ahead and get a cheap Wireless-G. Linksys has rebates on newegg.com
