Was wondering what you guys recommend for a wireless N router. I am using a WRT54G for right now and it does ok, but wanted to get one that is gigabit and wireless N. I setup that dumbass FIOS router into basically a MOCA extender plugged into the router and everything seems great. If you need help, let me know.

    D-Link DIR-655. End of discussion.

(It is considered a Draft N router)

I just got the 855, and overall I like it, but the range is less than my wrt310n. in any freq or channel. But anything it can reach, the downloads are noticeably and consistently faster; sites, files, media etc.

I have a ranch house that is about 90 feet wide, and my two sons, opposite side of house about as far as you can get from router, have weaker signals and drop connectivity for brief periods, where as this didn't happen before. Neither of them have N-adapters, but they weren't necessary before, so i will probably upgrade them. Roughly in the middle of the house, I have a PS3 and Xbox 360, that both get good signals. Overall, I have 1 desktop hardwired, 4 laptops wireless, another desktop wireless, and the 2 consoles, plus Wii. I wanted the ability to run 2.4 and 5 at the same time to segregate gaming and hi load media downloads, and not affect internet and such, which was happening with the Linksys.

I would say I lost about 20 feet or so of peak, strong signal. After I upgrade those adapters, if I have the same problem, I will probably try the wrt610n. I have always used linksys, so I'm not sure why I switched to D-link anyway, just read a few more positive reviews of the 855, I guess.

I see you have the DLink 855 with an XBox360. I just purchased a D-Link Dir-855 and I am having a nightmare setting it up with my XBox360. Here are my stats:

    - D-Link Dir-855
    - Hardware Version A2
    - Firmware Version 1.12WW
    - ISP is Earthlink DSL

The XBox Live works when I connect directly to my Earthlink modem. I cannot connect when I am wired through to the DLink router via Ethernet (this is not a wireless issue). The XBox cannot obtain an IP address from the router. I have called DLink and tried creating a static IP, forwarding ports and setting up a DMZ; all with no luck.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance, jpro

Ive had 3 Dlinks, the 655, 4500 and currently I run the 825, out of all three I found the 655 the best for 2.4 Ghz performance including range and they are a good price right now, the 4500 was about equal to the 655 2.4, the 5Ghz was resonable to good, the 825 in last place with 2.4 good and 5 Ghz lacking, although the 825 is lacking, I repositioned the router in the house and all is well, with the 825, its location location location and the fact I wanted to run certain equipment simultaneously at max performance.

Out of all three, I say the Dir 655 is the best on average.

I would like to help you but am fairly cluelees for your type of setup. I am using a Linksys N gaming adapter for wireless link on the Xbox. I have not had to use port forwarding or anything like that, but I would think wired should be pretty straight forward. Sorry. I do know that for the brief period I had DSL, I had fits with both wireless and wired setups from the DSL modem. But that was a couple of years ago with a Linksys router.

Edit**** LMAO....I just googled to try and find a fix, and the first link I came to had your problem and a solution. Glad you found a fix. Apparently I was right about the straightforward part. Cheers.
