    Best Most reliable Wireless N router

    I've been trying to find one and So far the best I got is the D-link 655. Does anyone have experience with wireless N routers that could point me in the right direction? I did buy the D-link 655 (2 days ago) and its reliable but I don't get 300 ever on any of my 3 pcs. So any help would be awesome!

    I get 300mbps on my linksys wrt320n. Netgear WNDR3700 should be good too.

    I hated my DIR-655. Worst router I ever owned.

    I had a Netgear 8435 (or something like that), it was 1/100 and N, it worked good, and great after a power supply upgrade, and incredible after a firmware change to DD-WRT but was only 10/100. :( I gave that away to a friend who needed it and went back to my 655 temporarily until I got my Linksys WRT610N. I Highly recommend this or the Netgear WNDR3700.

    I can tell you that my ping has dropped quite a bit after getting rid of the 655. Enough that you could actually see a difference, I think the old Netgear was a little faster than the 655 in this manner too. I can't say that the 3700 will do that, but shouldn't increase it. The 3700 does however have some of the highest throughput. Neither is perfect, but are probably two of the best out there. Asus has a really nice dual band right now too that can compete with these. I won't touch another D-link because of my experience with the 655 unless they make significant changes to how they do things.


    For 300mbps...
    The 655 is a single band router. It only does 2.4 band, not 5000 band.
    To do 300mbps on 2.4 you need to enable 40mhz channel width. On 5k, this is unnecessary as far as I know.

    To enable 40mhz channel width on the router, this is a simple drop down. The problem is that many cards have this disabled by default and you must go into the advanced section of the wireless configuration and enable it. This is probably why you are not seeing 300mpbs. Most assume the card will kick over automatically and it doesn't.

    In my experience the DIR 655 was the best router I ever owned. I did stay clear of the 1.3 firmware until 1.33NA which just got released. The DIR 655 has been rock solid stable for me and until the firmware upgrade had an uptime of about 1 1/2 years.

    Of course I bought the DIR 655 when it was fairly new. I bet there are far better routers out there now. I'd go with one that can go with the 2.4 and 5 Ghz band.
