Well i was in your position 2 months ago , got the wndr 3700 netgear , very good , but now use an asus rt n16 as it has better range , much better admin gui , lots of options in settings , firewall and replaceable antenna .
Still use the 3700 as an AP for 5 ghz band as the Asus has the chipset for 5 ghz but not implemented . Also has 2 usb ports 128 Mb ram 32 Mb rom
Plus the asus was $87.00 at amazon , hope they enable the 5 ghz in next firmware if possible , so far it has been great , the 3700 is also very good but not as many admin firewall settings options

one more thought ,hope it's not the chipset that is screwing up the a n band in the wrt 600-610 as I think the 3700 has the same one

Get WNDR3700 if you would like to replace your WRT610N, but for cost down you could get WRT320N only for the 5GHz band. Not only it is cheaper, according to this SmallNetBuilder's chart, WRT320N performs the best at 5GHz using 40MHz channel. But still with extra cost, WNDR3700 will give you more features which Linksys's wireless routers don't have.

I bought WRT320N mainly due to the reason that I wanted to have a 5GHz band network. I got WRT320N almost a half price of WRT610N's, and also I don't need simultaneous one since I've already owned WRT310N which still can be used for the 2.4GHz band. At least I could get the current best one for the 5GHz without having to spend so much money.

Regarding the chipsets, WNDR3700 shouldn't end up like WRT610N (v1.0) since they use different chipsets. WRT610N (v1.0) uses Broadcom chipsets, while WNDR3700 uses newer design more expensive chipsets from Atheros which explains why it performs better. Actually, WRT320N also uses Broadcom's, but it's not the same as the one inside WRT610N (v1.0). It turns out that this design makes WRT320N currently on top of that chart.
