I need to buy a new router. I don't need 802.11N. I need to be able to plug in Cat5 cables to it.

What is the best one available for the money?

Any good buys online that you can recommend?

    Thanks!

you posted this in the wrong forum...it should have gone into Networking a few forums down from this one.

in any case the best G router out there is the Linksys WRT54GL.

I will second the WRT54GL. It has the abilty to use third-party firmware such as OpenWrt, DD-WRT and others.

The Buffalo WHR-54G was the best cheap router, Has the same hardware specs as the WRT54GL for less money. The Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 is my pick for the best router, and can be loaded with dd-wrt linux firmware. This model has an extra amp to boost sensitivity on the receive side. Which helps to extend the range. But these are scarce as hens teeth right now do to an court injuction. This is just the first of many to come to all mfg of wifi. I suspect all the others will settle out of court. Buffalo would not talk to the company about patten royality, the reason they were picked first, and lost. Now they can not import any more into the US till this is settled.

i tried DD-WRT but it wasn't for me i guess

anyways, the Linksys WRT54GL is a good router. gave me some problems with my TWC Motorola cable modem but Linksys tech support is extremely helpful.

The D-Link DI-624 was my old router and it was really good as well (despite the negativity towards this particular model.) it's probably been replaced by a newer D-Link model.
