I've had a couple knowlegable people tell me that wireless routers are great firewall's and no need for other software based firewall.
    Is this true?

I personally still use ZA firewall(extra security), but most router do provide a firewall.

Any router doing NAT is a decent firewall. Actually better than MS on XP. But it does not block outgoing and it gives any installed application full reign, bad policy. The reason most users us a personal FW too. I use the Free Comodo FW.
