I have a belkin N150 wireless router. It cost me around 45 dollars at my local officemax. I installed and connected it, but I am not getting decent performance out of this thing. When I mean decent I mean staying online for more than 2 minutes without randomly disconnecting on me. I am about 50 feet away from my router with one wall between me and the router, and this happens. The box says that it should be able to reach 1000 feet, but it can barely hold a stable connection with 50 feet. Is this typical for a router that costs this much money, or is something wrong?

It could be interference, do you have a signal quality, have you updated to the latest firmware for your router.

Have you set your notebook/router to have the same number of channels , as different country`s have different number of channels available unless it`s set to auto.

Well, I called both the router company and my laptop company for help, and Sager says the laptop settings should work fine. Belkin helped me with the process of setting it up so I'm pretty sure its not my settings. The only interference that I can think of is the wall, but I would think a 50 dollar router wouldn't have such bad quality.

Home Tv signal transmitters, and bluetooth can interfere with wifi, eg mouse.

well, the weird but sad thing is that I am doing renovations in my kitchen and neither the refrigerator or microwave ovens are on. I have cordless phones, but I believe my plan is that the phone is connected to the same modem as my router. The cordless phones are much farther away from my laptop or router, but its in the 100 meter range. Oh, and I don't have any bluetooth devices on.

I was talking to my friends and they said their 20 dollar routers from wal-mart works fine through 3 walls of interference and around the same distance as mine.

Never heard anything bad about the 5300

EDIT : I had a problem with the latest firmware on my router, so i flashed the previous firmware and it fixed the problem, it maybe worth trying.

it could be an issue with the router. I had a similar problem with my Belkin router, connection would drop within a minute. I solved it by disabling one of the security options in the router. Unfortunately, i don't remember which one, since i did it over a year a go and the router is not with me at the moment.

I hate to say this, but I have never had a good experience with Belkin networking eqiupment. Their other stuff is usually good, but they fail in networking.

I would return the router and pick up a Linksys N router.

As i said before if you are using the newest firmware, flash the previous version as see if it works better.
