This router was top rated by Tom's hardware. Does anyone have any experience with it?

My daughter's laptop is plagued with the Intel 2915 disconnects problem. After upgrading the drivers the laptop connection is perfect in her school wireless, but it frequently disconnects both at home and at her apartment, while other computers stay connected (both home and her apt. have a D-link 624 router).

Has anyone tried this router with a similar problem and, if so, did it help? Thanks

Well first have you updated everything (firmware & drivers)?
Getting a 108Mbps router isnt worth it since your daughters laptop has the 2915 card. You can just get a basic router (a decent "G" router and it will more than likely work. As say a Netgear or Linksys since i really have seen less problems with the 2915 card to them.

If anything, you might want to consider to swipe ou her intel with an Atheros card. Just a suggestion and Good Luck!

Yup- did all the upgrades. Before upgrading her drivers she had the same problem at school, but that's rock solid now so I am thinking that the 2915 card and the D-link router (which is Atheros based) have some compatibility issue. I am thinking of picking one up at Bestbuy or the like, making sure that wherever I buy it I can return if it doesn't help, unless anyone has another idea.

Well, I went to Bestbuy intending to purchase it and try it out. The salesman strongly rec. Netgear's rangemax instead. 14 hours later and the connection is perfect :)!!!

    Thanks :)
Although now I am another mission- it appears that a version 2 of this router was released 12/1 with a new chip and it seems to make sense to get the newest version- but it has the same part number, so the only way to find it is to call each store and I am not having any luck.

On the positive side- still a rock-solid connection :)

I have the Belkin Pre-N router (three antennas) and was using the wireless network with my Intel 2915 a/b/g built-in to my Z70va. Wasn't getting the connectivity I wanted. Frequent drops and not great throughput.

I opted to puchase the Belkins Pre-N wireless PCMCIA card for the laptop. Now I'm connected consistently with a great Mbps. Disappointing that the built-in wireless capability of my laptop wasn't better but I'll use it when I travel.

Very happy with my home Belkin wired and wireless networks.

Hmmm...thanks. I'm glad I opted for the Netgear- the salesman sure was right, because it is now officially 24 hours without a single drop :D

I am far from any kind of an expert here, but I think that the issue with these cards is with other wireless interference. As I had posted, the connection was flawless at her school (a powerful, single wireless environment), problematic at home (a private home, with only a single neighbor's network signal picked up) and awful in her apartment (a large building with several network signals in the area; no 2.4 GHz phones in her apt. but who knows what her neighbors use). All the specs on the Netgear Rangemax WPN824 indicate that the 7 internal antennas are geared to weed out interference and it sure seems to work, at least at home. The ultimate test will be how it works in her apartment.
