    Atheros or Intel?

    Which is better? The atheros in the Sony Vaio FW (VGN-FW139E/H) or intel 5100?

    at this time. there only seems to be the next gen wireless n wifi with a/b/g/n connectivity.

    Intel wireless adapter is certainly an excellent card and more universal in the laptop market, but Atheros is more present in the router side. The advantage of having an all Atheros system (laptop and router) is that you can have less compatibilities and performances issues. I would still suggest Intel, especially the new 5300 one, it seems to be the best wireless card in the market now.

    Atheros does perform better than Intel, however the Intel ones run cooler and produce less heat. The old models of Thinkpad used to use Atheros chipset.
    It's up to you though, better performance or better battery life.
