I have read through the threads here and tried as many of the things as i could find but i have some questions and maybe too high of expectations...

I have an Asus G51J Laptop. it has the Atheros AR9285 wireless card installed. I am using the WPA2 protocol. Auto channel. 300Mbps setting. I have the most up to date drivers for the network card. The router i am using is WNR200 Netgear at the recommendation of someone with more knowledge than myself. =)

As i mentioned, i followed the advice etc of previous threads. I am getting from Speedtest on my hard wired connection 62Mbps download, 11 Mbps upload and 17ms ping. *edit* also i get 5 bars signal strength downstairs so the signal is strong.

Wirelessly i know im not going to get these speeds, however i am thinking that 14Mbps down and 8Mbps up is a wee bit on the low side considering that I have the laptop almost on top of the router for this test.

Is this what i should be expecting? Im told yes by some and no by others. should i replace the network card with a usb model?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

You should be getting more than you do although this card is no good.
Your router is set to 300mbps but your card is not as AR9285 is capable of only 150mbps.
You may want to check if card is set to max performance/no power-saving in both advanced Windows options and advanced driver tab in device manager.

When upgrading a wireless card I'd recommend buying an Intel 5300 or 6200 nor a USB adapter- replacement is easy enough but signal quality is better for internal cards with proper antennas.
