I just bought an AR5008E-3NX from EBay. Installed it in my Aspire 9113 to replace the Intel 3945bg. I connected the original 2 antennas to connectors 1 and 2 and 1 and 3 during different attempts to get the card work. I installed the following drivers from the unofficial Atheros.cz site which installed correctly. The device shows up in device manager as working properly and the wireless icon shows in the system tray. The wireless button on the laptop reports 'no wireless device' and doesn't illuminate when I press it. When I refresh network list nothing is found.

    Any ideas?

I might try it in my Advent 4211 netbook and see if I have more luck there.

I've since tried reinstalling the card after system restore to before the first attempt and I found some drivers on the Acer website which I assumed might be more compatible yet still the wireless button doesn't work even though all looks well in device manager.

When I've clean installed XP in the past I've never used the Acer drivers for my Intel card but just the latest drivers from the Intel website and the wireless switch has always worked.

Does it seem more like a faulty card or just that the machine (bios?) is set only to recognize the original Intel card?

I finally installed the Atheros card in my Advent 4211 and so far so good. The wireless Fn-F11 key on/off works fine the signal on my 802.11g network is good. Now I just need a 802.11n router to see how it performs with only 2 antennas, I have the 3 spare antennas that's came with the card so I will always be able to add another inside the case at a later date.

Now I guess I need to find/buy the right card for my Aspire.
