Atheros are great cards. I just love mine. Thanx to it and the quite decent antena built into my system I can pick up signals that a desktop PCI card with dedicated antena cannot.

    I bet you'll like it.

Yea, Mines picks up a bit more then my 2915 did..

Also the battery life did give it a unexpected jump for the better!

If only I could find the latest drivers, its confusing how to control the card...the connection/db/power/etc.

Latest I found was April 1st, 2005. 4.1.2.38. If you find newer let me know.

I cannot seem to understand the transmittion power either. Even if I turn of power management it won't transmit at more than 30mW, even if I move my notebook away from the AP and speed starts to drop. Nothing seems to convince it to transmit higher.

But I don't mind. At the spot where I always use my notebook I can associate with the Cisco 1100 AP at full speed (54mbs) up & down. Even some 15-20 ft away and thru a concrete wall.

Same here, I don't mind not controlling it since it works great but I like putting things to the test ;)

PCD Global e-mailed the driver file to me. The file is labelled "1.31.000." The data1, data2, layout and setup files are dated 5.19.2005, so maybe these are the latest drivers?

Good to see all the positive feedback on these Atheros cards!!

    Anyone else want it?

I sent the file to both Gmail addresses, Cori and Qwest, but my e-mail was rejected due to an "illegal attachment" according to the return message I received. Maybe you need to temporarily disable some filter/spam restrictions?

I put my aging 5004 card (purchased mid-2004) into my Gateway 7508GX a couple weeks ago, and downloaded the latest drivers I could find at the time -- which is 4.1.2.71. I don't recall where I downloaded the driver package from, but I did locate the following forum post which links to a working download:

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14494006

In fact that post also links to an even newer version which I have not tested...

It's still quite rare in stores, eBay is a good place, other then that, the 'few' stores that have it..

I think Jack mentioned it in the 1st page..

Coriolis do you have Jack's drivers installed? I want to know what's the version of the utillity. Cause I noticed there are some slight differences than the ones I had so I went back to mine and indeed there is, nothing major thou, so I was wondering if they are the same driver version but different utillities.
Funny thing the ones I have are one hour newer :D and the setup/installer is a bit differnt, allows you to install driver or utility only, and allows you to turn on/off net zero.

But all is good, all are just as functional. but my transmit power is still at 30mW :p

Okay, I just got back online. I bought the AR5006XS from www.pcdglobal.com. You have to e-mail them directly to get the process going. The price was $65 + $10 USPS shipping.

Cori -- I sent the driver file to your other address. Hope it works!
