I just received my att dsl/phone service. It came with a gateway modem/wireless router and I tried to install it. I will not be using the phone service so I only want to install the dsl but it is not working. I have a laptop with a Vista OS. The Dsl and internet light on the router keeps flashing red and I don't know how to fix it  . I tried unplugging everything and reinstall and restarting but still not working. I talked to att but the damn CS said they will have to get back to me on it tomorrow night. Please help!

First I hooked up one side of the Phone cord to the phone jack (Filter) and the other to the Gateway modem.

After that I hooked up the Ethernet cable to the modem and my laptop

Last, I powered the modem with the power supply.

On your routers setup page, are your PPPOE settings correct? As in, is the log-in info for your AT&T internet account in the username and password boxes?

Your username may be your entire ATT account email. Your password is whatever your normally use.

right...the gateway modem requires you put in a user account and password before it will connect.

I think my problem is the dsl home line. The modem is not detecting a dsl connection so I can't register my modem.

Make sure you connect the modem to the UN-filtered phone line. The filter is for the voice connection

I talked to Att support and was first told to connect the phone line to the dsl filter, still not working. I talked to 2nd support lady and was told not to connect to the filter, still not working. They have a tech coming out next saturday =(.

Don't worry. The same thing happened to me when I ordered DSL two years ago. It takes a while for AT&T to get things set up on their end, so just wait for a few days and see if you can activate your modem. After a day or two, my modem finally activated.

I hope so. I actually had a light of hope when I looked at my modem last night. The darn flashing red light turned green for a few seconds and turn to red again. It did this a few times.
