    Asus RT-AC5300 (and AX82U) IPTV and LAN speed drop

    Hi, so i have an RT-AC5300 router. I want to replace the router that was given by my ISP by this one. Basically, what happens is that if i connect the router and operate normally via LAN/WIFI the speed is good and it runs fine. However if i enable IPTV (which i have in my room) in the settings by setting VID 6 on LAN 4 and then plug the lan cord to the LAN 4 port the IPTV works fine however the speed of my desktop drops to as low as 90mbit (i have a gigabit internet). This does not happen with my ISPs router (Technicolor). I have tried Asus AX82U as well and the issue is the same. Any ideas what could be wrong?

    Sounds like a QOS problem on the Asus or some other firmware glitch causing the drop to 90mbps.

    Try not setting the VID 6 and just let it figure things out and see if you experience the same issue or try another port. It's possible that the routers are degrading speeds to the lowest port speed of the device connected.

    It's probably not part of your present problem, but you might want to check the output of the ISPs gateway to see what you are getting. I am paying for gigabit, and ATT shows that the fiber is delivering 905+ to the ONT. However, the best my gateway router delivers (via ethernet) is 500 mB. I talked to ATT, and they said that solution would be to run fiber from ONT to the gateway and replace the ONT. Since I am moving in six months, I elected to live with it.

    BTW, you are not running a VPN in your router, are you? That will cut throughput by a factor of five or more - turns out that 60-80 mB/s is the best any of these routers can do with VPN, due to lack of processing horsepower. That said, I agree with previous post that there may be a setting in the ASUS routers.
