    Hello,

Ive had my G50vt for a year and a half and overall Im happy with it...except the wifi antenna. The last place I lived the wireless router was in the room right above me, so it wasnt a problem. Now Im back living on my sailboat, and the antenna broadcasting the signal is about 100 feet away. My friend who is about 75 feet away further connects no problem with his laptop, and Ive read about the wifi issues, so I bought one of those "Cantenna"

14dBi One Super CANTENNA YAGI WiFi Extender 802.11bg - eBay (item 200532752405 end time Nov-16-10 17:32:26 PST)

and I got a USB 300 Mbps 802.11 n Adapters for it. Im a little uncertain though how to make it work. I put it all together and pointed the Cantenna towards the wifi antenna and plugged it into the usb went into network connections and disabled the onboard 5100 and enabled the USB one and it doesnt detect any wifi networks, but the 5100 see's them just keeps dropping connection every minute or 2...

What could I be doing wrong?

Check if the hardware is working at all by moving closer to the Wi-Fi.

The cantenna essentially makes it directional, so make sure you're pointing it in the direction of the AP. Your other option could be to get better antennas for the AP.

Well the marina where my boat is, controls their wireless network, what Im not sure is when I plug the usb wifi card in, do I need to flip the switch on the laptop to disable the internal wifi card and or disable it through the software in Network connections do i "disable" the internal 5100 AGN card and enable the usb wifi card, or just plug the USB card in and it takes over?

    thanks

The adapters should be separately controlled, you can disable the internal card if you think it's causing a conflict, or need the battery life. The external adapter should connect regardless of how the internal adapter is set up.
