Just wondering if anyone has Virgin Media Broadband here, has your connection been at a crawl for the past few hours as mine has. I'm using the modem connected to the router. My connection is 10mb but doing a speedtest.net test, it's peaking at 2mb. Is this normal with virgin.

Have you tried rebooting the modem or trying a different test site?

Tried both of these, but no difference, i'll have to give them a call.

It's working fine for me. The Service Status indicates no problems and Speedtest has just given me 1988kb/s for my 2MB connection.

I've just phoned them and they have tested it, they say it's running fine but i'm not getting the full speed, they say there are no caps on the connection, i've tried it on 2 computers and I get the same results everytime, so they are investigating, could take up to 72 hrs.

I never get full speed. I've given up on it though, can't be bothered. I have Easynet links to my home for stuff that matters, the Virgin is for stuff that doesn't - and it's not like I'm a monster downloader.

Just had another play around with it and it's my router. When I connect the modem directly to my computer I get full speed, then with the router connected it's playing up. I've disconnected it all and reconnected, put new ethernet cables on and it seems ok for now. Maybe the router is faulty.
I've also tried upgrading the router firmware (Netgear WGR614v9) but it just says check file, so it won't upgrade. Downloaded the firmware directly from netgear website, something definatley not right. -

Thanks for the update.
Routers do get old and die but it's unusual for them to slow down. They can also be in need of a reboot from time to time.
My current router (Asus WL500Gp) is holding up well. It's one of the few routers with a built-in USB printer port.

do you pay extra for your wireless router or did they give you it free?
