Just curious as my old Linksys wired router is starting to die....after 10 faithful years of service.

I'm connected using one right now, it's a good router for sure but I think is overpriced when compared to the Netgears. I personally own a Netgear WNDR3400 but my brother uses the E2000 at his place. He's had it for about 3 months with no problems and we both upgraded from a WRT54G. If you want gigabit LAN but don't mind not having simultaneous dual band wireless, the E2000 is fine. It does get a bit toasty on the bottom from the gigabit ports though and doesn't have a USB port for network storage.
If you do want simultaneous dual band wireless but don't care about gigabit connections, go for the wndr3400 and you can even use 3rd party firmware with the Netgears.
Another model to check out (both the Netgears are less expensive) is the WNDR3500L. Gigabit with 2.5ghz only, can use DDWRT, Tomato, etc. If you only need single band wifi, Buffalo is another good company for a basic and inexpensive router. -
Not having simultaneous dual band isn't really an issue. Thanks RWUK, I'll pick up the E2000.

I wish my routers would last ten years

I'm pretty sure mine was a fluke of nature.

When I say my brother and I 'upgraded' from a WRT54G, I mean we moved out of our mom's house and to University where we needed our own equipment. She still has that same Linksys router from about 9 years ago. About a year ago I realized I should upgrade the firmware, not due to any problems I was having but just because. It's only G speeds but has been 110% reliable.
The WRT54G is probably the most famous Cisco/Linksys model of all, the old school G workhorse. Lots has changed in electronics in 10 years, I doubt the new ones will last more than half this amount of time, if that. The heat from gigabit alone seems to wear out newer routers in less than 5 years.
Anyone have experience with the Linksys E2000 router?
