Is there any way to boost signal from the router through metal siding? The router/antenna is about 100ft from my desktop. The wireless service installer said there is fantastic signal up to the metal but inside there is not enough to connect. My desktop must sit in front of a window to get any reception and having to do this with a laptop just defeats the purpose. Moving the router is not an option either because it is in my sister's house and I'm mooching service off of her.

    Any advice is appreciated!
    Thanks

I have heared that you can use a tin can to direct and focus the signal with wifi, but i dont know about bluetooth.

You can buy an usb antenna with an extension cord. That way you can have the desktop anywhere in the room, but the actual antenna can be hung by the window.

As for your laptop, if you dont wanna be tied up like the desktop, then just don't use the usb extension cord and just have the antenna plugged directly in your usb port. This will also work because these are amplified antennas that supposedly pick up signals better.

Thanks. Is what you are talking about called a "usb antenna"? or some other search term? I looked on newegg and this is about the only thing that looks like something usb. Maybe you could recommend one in particular?? Or what about running a hard line from her router to my desktop or some other option beside this antenna??

    Thanks again

Another option is to buy a wireless game client or AP (setup as client) and set it up in the window. ( or setup a bridge) Change the antenna to a Beam to really boost the signal. This would give you a cat5 cable to run any where you want.

Or you could simply run a wire to your location and not mess with the wireless.

That looks like a separate wireless adapter to me '.'
adinu's avatar up there is FF9 Vivi right? Its the midget mage with no face? :) Kinda like my avatar too xD

I know back when it was still 802.11b, I had an Orinoco adapter where there's a mini port in the end, I'll take a picture when I get home but I had quite a few antenna for it, one of them enhance your signal in an Omnidictional (Circular) radius and one's Directional (Cone-shape) :O that you can attached to a Wireless LAN PCMCIA card. I don't know if they still does it anymore '~" or compatible.

I also read articles where you can increase WiFi signals like that...

Rather you believe it or not... up to you but.. I never tried it... looks weird anyway to carry stuff like these around >.> to find hotspots lol :)

If you have access to the AP's physical location, then you can try something like this...

    Hope it helps :)
