I am sure many of you are confused about the title of the thread, well basically I am looking for a portable router for cell phones/wifi enabled devices that is standalone (without having to connect to a cellphone) and uses the cell phone network. Any suggestions are welcome.

For those that doesn't believe such things exists, here's an example for Sprint network. :p ;)

Explain you projected use a little - if you're not interested in using a cell as a connection device, then you're really just talking about using any kind of wireless router, with notebooks using wireless adapters. There's nothing special about Mobile Routers, only that they can use a cell as an interface device, and some are setup for VOIP. But as I said, since you're not interested in that, then why bother with one like this?

Mobile Routers tend to be slower - typically they're only Wireless B/G. Depending on what you want to do with it, you'd be better off getting an N or Dual-Band N router for better connections, LAN setup and throughput speed.

If you can describe more about what you want to do it'll be easier to give you a better answer and solution.

If you are talking about turning your cell phone into a router, the only thing i can think of is,,,

    An iPhone with PdaNet

PDAnet turns the iphone into a standard G router.
