I would like my wireless router to connect to a VPN so that all of my devices are automatically connected to that VPN instead of having each tunnel to it individually. It would also be nicer than having to use software to manually connect using my laptops. Unfortunately, although I am finding lots of routers that offer VPN passthrough, I can't find any that can serve as an endpoint/client. Can anybody shed some light into this?

As I understand it you need a router with VPN client build in. These exist but I think they are more business class hence more expensive.
Maybe you could also achieve this by using a combination of a consumer grade router and DD-WRT, some (outdated) info here. -
i set up a couple of these TP-LINKs for a client recently. without going into too much detail, they have POS terminals that need to query/connect to databases on my servers. straightforward setup, very fair price, and we haven't had a single issue with either of them for almost two months now. i know they're rebooting at least one of them daily (POS booth runs on a generator) and the tunnel has yet to not come back up.
we also considered going with these Ciscos -- another client is using an older model -- but the throughput isn't as good as the TP-LINKs. check out the table in the item description for a couple other models. -

Anything that supports OpenWRT will do this just fine.

I use an Old Netgear FVS338 router ( using factory firmware) for my endpoint VPN connection into my home. This is a Wired only router so I have several Wireless routers setup as AP.

Any decent wireless routers that can act as an IPsec VPN endpoint?
