Just wondering if somebody could give me a hand walking me through how to get bearshare to connect on my wireless laptop through my wgu624 (netgear). I've gone into the setting and have tried the port triggering set to 6346 and things like that but I'm sure I'm not doing it right because still no luck. Any help would be great.

Disable your Firewall? Maybe, just maybe, disable the security on your network if there is any. Maybe updating the firmware and drivers would be a good idea too.

Ya, I've pretty much done all that. I find multiple articles on this from a google search but so far all of them are related to a router that doesn't use the same type of configuration settings as my WGU624. Its in the port forwarding/triggering setting somewhere but just can't figure it out. Maybe somebody is telling me just to keep the whole bearshare/music info on my desktop and save the space on my laptop. Thanks anyways.

Is the desktop connecting through the router too? Does it work on the desktop?

Yep, the desktop is connected by cable to the router and Bearshare works fine on it. Now google earth is a different story but Bearshare works fine.

What port is Bearshare using on the desktop? Did you forward this port using the port forwarding feature of the router or using DMZ?

Ahhh, dr st, that may be the problem. I just went into the setting again for the router to set the port forwarding again and put in the port 6346 for in and out. Not sure if that is right but then it asks for an ip address. Not sure what to put in there. I'm accessing the setting through the desktop right now.

Now when I try to put in any info, it says that the info must be the same on both computers or submask or something like that so I deleted everything I did on both machines and started over and I'm still getting the same prompt. Both must be the same and at this point neither the desktop or the laptop have anything under portforwarding. Getting a little confusing here.

    In a nutshell:

A single port (say, 6346) can be forwarded to one and only one machine in your LAN. If it's is forwarded to the desktop, you cannot forward it to the laptop.

If you wish to run BearShare on the laptop too, you need to configure it to use a different port there, then forward that port to the laptop via the router's interface.

Thanks doc for the info in this thread. I've tried everything now and gave up. Just wasn't worth it when I thought I'd try Limewire and see if I ran into the same probs. I installed Limewire and got the same firewall prompt, clicked allow (just like Bearshare) and then ran the program. I connected and ran fine on first try without any portforwarding or adjusting any other settings. Might just be a bearshare software problem. So Bearshare is history. Later! Hello Limewire. Thanks for you help though. We gave it a shot.

Do you have to use wireless? I've had loads of problems with different protocols and wireless.

No I don't have to but I just thought it would be nice when I was downstairs on the laptop to check out new music that popped into my head while I was watching a movie or music video. I've found in the past if I don't write the song down right away, I forget about the song completly or forget the name of it. Just thought it would be a nice toy but like I said, Limewire is working fine so I happy overall.
