    Another strange problem.

    Hi guy's,

I have a outdoor Hawking antenna (omni directional) with a Hawking signal booster hooked up to a D-Link wireless router. These are installed in a trailer about 60 feet away. The reason why I needed so much power is because I am in an industrial site (lots of interfarence). The router can not be moved so that is why I bought all of those gadgets. My problem is that when I scan for the the signal, the strength is about 4 bars which is very good, but when I connect it drops to 1 bar and a network speed of 1Mbps. I tried contacting Hawkingtech but they didn't help with anything. Hawkingtech says that the antenna has a range of up to 1.5 miles. And mine is about 60 feet away but doesn't work. I have to use a repeater so that I can use my WiFi. Can you guy's help me please?
    Thanks.

Please clarify: Are you talking about the signal strength from your laptop to your wireless router, or the signal strength from the antenna to your router?

It appears you refer to the WiFi signal from Laptop to the Access Point. A hardware guy I know recently explained to me the signal speed displayed on LT `11.0 Mbps' & Signal Quality `Excellent' has very little/nothing to do with actual upload/download speeds which are determined by the rest of the HW that connects you to ISP & the Internet. Even if I have 54Mbps w/ Intel ProSet/Wireless ( 2915 mini PCI card) I may be limited to 512 K/s down, 128 K/s Upload by/from the rest of system [router-PC-Inet]. I am no expert, just relaying similar type info Q & A from someone whom appears to be.
Is the antenna on a pole, in the trailer or on top, or on ground to one side? Do you have latest drivers & firmware installed on all the pieces?
    Signal Quality=`Very Good'??
It is harder to determine the actual speed limits, but I would hope a more experienced HW tech could explain (or link to a good) HOW 2.
The signals may be getting bounced off of the interference & in effect cancelling each other. (2 ripples in a pond, coming from opposite sides *?*)
IMHO Range described applies to flat line-of-sight w/o interference! Do you have any areas where the signal is better? May help to get directional & aim it to the area most used/needed?Help list other HW in sig, similar to mine. I just started DynaSig, enter once, linked so can use in many forums.

Quite often this can be attributed to the wireless card and router not getting along. Try installing the most current drivers for your wireless card and updating the router firmware. You can also try using a different router.
