I currently have an Intel 7260HMW. Just wondering, amongst the wireless cards, is there a best half-height length wireless card?

The 7260HMW seems to be the only game in town amongst the Intel cards. The newer cards are all M.2 based and therefore not compatible.

I think that was the latest and greatest as far as mini PCI Express is concerned.

Yeah I think so as well. Just wondering, was the Intel 6300 a more reliable wireless card? I've heard plenty of people having problems with the Intel 7260s.

I've had my fair share of rpoblems with 7260 on 2.4GHz band. It's never been troublesome on 5GHz - 802.11n or ac.
Troubles with 2.4GHz went away at certain point but more recent drivers seemed to limit performance considerably so I decided not to play with updates anymore.

While it works fine and so is the performance, I certainly can't say it was a trouble free operation.

If you use mostly 2.4Ghz band than Intel 6300 might be a better option, if you do notice issues with 7260 - these are the sort of issues that are very much noticeable so you would now if you had them.

    Thanks downloads. +Rep.

Will probably buy both. The 6300 is a pretty cheap card and the 7260HMW AC isn't too expensive either. I do have a 3x3 wifi on the laptop, so I guess with the more 5 GHz oriented 7260HMW, it would be a "waste" in a sense since it's only 2x2. I often take my laptop with me to public, so perhaps the 6300 is a better choice.

Pity Intel didn't release a 7300 series wifi with 3x3. It's strange - even the newer cards like the 8265 are 2x2. They seem to have abandoned 3x3 almost, and the 9260 isn't out either.
