First let me start off by saying, all of my problems began when my main desktop which was hooked up to my cable modem called it quits. Now what I have is the phone line goiing into the cable modem, with the ethernet cable going from cable modem to my Netgear router. I'm trying to get my 2 wireless laptops back up and running with my router. At first, I could pick up the network for a few minutes and then it would be lost until I reset everything. Now, I try resetting the modem and the router and I can't get anything. On the cable modem, the DSL, power, and ethernet lights are all green. On the router, now I'm getting just the power and the internet lighting up green, but no light for the wireless. But sometimes, I'm getting the power light and the test light green, but the internet light orange on the router. Anyone have any ideas, am I missing something simple here or do I have more serious issues? Thanks in advance...

Most cable ISP use MAC Filtering to control access. So you should clone the failed MAC Address into the router. DSL uses a different setup, some also requires mac address cloning.

I would start with a special reset procedure. This procedure is used by beta tester, I use to be one for the FVS338.

Press and hold the reset for 20 sec. Do not release the reset button till I till the end. Unplug the power for 20 sec. Then power it backup. After another 20sec you can release the reset button. If you release the reset button before the end you must start over. Now re-install the firmware. Do another reset.

Now do the initial setup and see if the radio comes back on. The internet led should be green if the correct info is entered, PPPoE.

I still cant seem to get a connection via my laptops. I've tried all the recommended resets and nothing has worked.

I've gotten to the point where both laptops can pick up my network, but no internet. It says Local Only. As I said, all these problems began when my desktop went down for good, so I have no physical connection to my cable modem. Before it went down, the desktop was physicall connected to the cable modem, could this be my problem?

    Thanks Again

Yes. As stated by blue68f100, your modem is probably locked to your old desktop computer's MAC address. If you do know what the MAC address of your old desktop is/was, then go into your router's setup menu and clone it so it presents the same MAC address to the modem.
