In my room, about 35 feet (through 3 walls) my signal on 5ghz sucks so hard i am forced to switch to 2.4ghz

I though 5 was suppose to be faster and stronger?

also when i am upstairs, about 50 feet (direct line) i get a poor signal.

My router is in the middle of the hosue in the living room.

The primary difference between 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz is bandwidth and range.. 5 Ghz has a higher transmit rate and can send and receive more information then a 2.4 Ghz network. Especially its a frequency that can handle a higher download/upload.. However the range on a 5 Ghz network is half of that of a 2.4 Ghz network.. So look at it this way.. For a higher bandwidth you suffer in range ( 5 Ghz ) for a lower bandwidth or download speed you gain in range (2.4 Ghz)..

    5 Ghz Pros and cons

    Pros

    - Strong bandwidth..
    - Faster performance
    - Less susceptible to interference

    Cons

    RANGE!!!!

    2.4 Ghz pros and cons

    Pros

    - RANGE
    - More Common.

    Cons

    - Limited bandwidth
    - More likely to suffer interference
