What do you think about these? How much trouble are they to maintain? I have one, and a friend who needs it, but I would be 'helping'...

I assume you mean the apple router. I would not get one. You can get a real router that has more options for cheaper and easier to setup. And once a router is setup there is nothing to be maintained.

Just because they have an apple doesnt mean they need all apple branded goods.

Well, the thing is I have to work with one. I got a new job and the fellow wants to run Mac so he went and got one of the routers with the computers he purchased. Should I convince him to take it back? I am not sure how much it was but since he is starting a new biz if it is not needed then I would like to save him a buck or two.

Apple's Airport routers are much easier to setup than any other router out there. No web based utilities or bs like that.

For something that he may want to adjust or change in the future it is a great idea.

It is worth the extra cost in my opinion, and compared with what you are actually getting, the features, and ease of use, it is definitely worth it.

As far as a "real router" goes, please. . .

My brother is using one, works great. You must use the Airport utility to setup the router, NO GUI. My brother is use a USB HD connected and it works without any issues.
