    Why hello there.
    I am going to uni in September and I recently bought a lovely Sony e series laptop to take with me so I can have do my work and also dabble on some CSS or whatever takes my fancy buuuuuuuut I just got a email from the uni explaining that the internet in the halls of residence will only support web browsing and not p2p or gaming?!! Is there any way to bypass this or anything?! It says they are only open on port 80 whatever that means :p here is the explanation of the tinterwebs in the halls...

    First off all bypassing it would be hard and risky. If it's done properly and monitored- which it probably is- all you can do is get into trouble as you've been explicitly informed what you can't do.
    Second matter is more pressing- this type of discussion is considered to be about bypassing security measures and thus is against forum rules which will get this thread closed rather soon.
    I'd consider your own 3G connection but it may not provide low latencies that you expect and need for online gaming.

    Yeah, be very careful of this. Bypassing the security measures could have the same results as academic dishonesty which in some university means immediate expulsion.
