Do not have a dual band wireless router, surf the net everyday and will be playing diablo 3 and guild wars 2. Ordering the 9150, does getting an upgraded wireless card help me?

since "clevo" is already prepared with 3 antenna's i would say go to the Intel 6300 or the Killer 1103. I have a 6300 and updated my router to the Asus N66. I can say that the performance is mostly on par with my expectations. If i hadn't the network card i had not bought the router, but since your going to buy a new laptop now, i think it's a worthy investment.

So unless I get a dual band router, an Intel 6300 or Killer 1103 does not make any difference?

How much faster after you got your new dual band router?

Depending on what the stock wireless card is, the 6300 or killer will make a difference because overall they are better. On a dual band router, the 6200 and 6300 are pretty comparable, i assume it will be the same for the killer 1102 and 1103. However, if the stock card is a cheap Atheros (read not one of the higher end Atheros), then getting any of those two will make a difference.

Besides, you might want to get a dual band router somewhere down the line. If the upgrade is of the order of $20, i say go for the upgrade.

Personally, i use my network to transfer and stream data between devices and the 5GHz band is invaluable for that. If you are in a crowded 2.4GHz environment, you will benefit from 5GHz.

    Thanks.

Whats the difference a 1103 or 6300 would make with a single band router? Would it still help with lag?

Yes or no- that's more complicated. If the reason behind the lag is your Wi-Fi card or the router it might help but if the reason is overcrowded 2.4GHz band or your ISP it won't help.

So in general there is no lag improvements with those cards?

Only if the card id the culprit. If it's the router or your connection or overcrowded 2.4GHz band no card will help you.

There's no magic solution- you should try to build a good networking setup as a whole and configure it properly.
Check your pings on wi-fi an Ethernet and see what room for improvement do you have.

meh have rogers - with 1.2mb/s dl speeds, probably won't make a dif with a better wireless card.

Your ISP bandwidth really don't have much to do with game lag or not.

Have fun with the new machine, if the wireless really is stabbing you in the back, you can think of upgrading later(which generally is not difficult).

Okay I have Ultraline Series 3 9100em router, the one with Verizon Fios. I have absolutely no idea about wireless networking, routers and stuff. Do you think if I upgrade my wireless card from the stock Sager 9150 if its gonna make any difference or do I just stick with it. Any newbie guides out there? I want to learn about this stuff but I don't know where to start.

Start with testing latency with an Ethernet cable and Wi-Fi and compare those.
If the difference is significant there is something to be gained (although not necessarily by replacing wireless card).

    Agreed.

Also really if you care so much about latency and such, the Ethernet cable is the choice for you.
