Have a Dell inspiron 610 or something running XP, with a secure connection to the wireless. My new Dell Notebook (1720 running Vista) arrives tomorrow. How do I connect it in the same way to the network (which is encrypted). I don't know the passwords because the installer man did it when I was at work and the wife didn't ask him.
Please tell me what I need to do to get the 1720 (which will be the main computer) running on the network? Many, many thanks in advance.
Step by step guide or link to another site if you must.

If the wireless has a ethernet lan port (wired) then you should be able to log into the router/wifi host with that. There you can see the code. If the code is not clear text but a punch of stares or dots then you can change the code to something you know. Also often the install man might have writen the code on to the device. Often there is an empty field at the bottom of the device where you are supposed to write the code.

If nothing else works you can always reset the device. It should have a reset switch. Then ofcourse you need to configer the device again just like the install man did.

If its a wireless network, try wirelesskeyview (google) and install it on a computer that is already wireless. You can also access the wireless configuration from the router/gateway url. usually 192.168.1.1 GL

You can always reset the router to have no password, or use the manual to see how to enter the setup where you can change the password.

But seriously, who does this? You put a password on something, but you don't know it, or don't ask for it. I agree with ATR90, maybe you should change the wife...

It's like going to buy a car, but not asking to get a key with it. They start it up for you, you drive it off the lot, but once you get home and turn it off you have no way of turning it back on ever again because you "forgot" to ask for a key...
