I wanted to transfer my files from my desktop to notebook, while I managed to connect both of them using Network Magic, it took forever just to send a 300mb file. I wanted to use ad-hoc mode between the two computers since they both have a wireless card, could someone tell me how to set it up? Will it be faster if I just connect the two with a ethernet cable?

You should just go with a Crossover Ethernet Cable, that transfers things at 100Mbps, when wireless G can onlt transfer at 54Mbps.
About connecting by Ad-Hoc. How were you setting this up?

crossover cable would probably be the fastest and easiest. not sure if it would be the cheapest if you only want to do it once since you would have to buy the cable.

First make sure that file sharing is enabled and firewalls ar turned off (just in case). Plug it in, give static IPs in the same subnet to both machines, then on one machine, search for the other machine by IP (Find -> Files and folders -> Computers or people -> Computer on the network). Once you find the other machine, you can copy the files.

I just brought a crosswire cable, I plugged it into both computer, gave my laptop 192.168.1.100 and my desktop 192.168.1.101, the local area network connected message popped up, but when I typed in the ip of the other computer on both computer, it won't connect at all. I already turned all my firewalls of, how can I fix this?

Try Repairing the connection. Make sure you enable the connection too.

You may have file sharing disabled on your desktop.

as long as 1 can access the other, thats all you really need to do. you said that you wanted to transfer files from your desktop to your laptop and your desktop can access your laptop? just make a folder in you desktop and put everything you want transfered in that folder. then copy/move that folder to the laptop.
