    Hi,

I currently have a desktop connected to a router in a wired network (LAN), and the desktop has a wireless network card with Ad Hoc setup. The OS installed in my desktop is Windows XP and my laptop is Windows Vista. I can connect to my desktop successfully through my laptop, but the problem is after a period time I get limited connectivity, and must reconnect again. While I was in Windows XP I didnt have this problem. Is there any way to have a stable connect, and also to connect automatically when the ad hoc network is discovered. Thank you.

Can you try disabling WEP and see if the problem persists ?

Do you have ICS setup on your desktop to share internet access through the wireless to your laptop?

it seems to be working, but I still need a type of security to prevent outsiders from accessing the network because I live in an open area

Sounds like you might want to get an inexpensive wireless access point then. Then you could run WPA instead of just WEP.

well, WEP isn't much security anyway... it can be cracked in as little as 1 minute.

if you're really concerned, you really should step up to WPA encryption.
