Everytime I join an ad hoc network created by my friends to join a LAN game my wireless radio turns off after about 5 minutes. I tried adding the program to the exceptions list and tried turning off my firewall. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 and Windows Vista. This has been an on going problem for me.

    Thanks,

    Howl

Just more information, I have no problem connecting to people and finding them. I just have a problem where my radio just shuts off. I have this problem too where it decides to shut off to when I try to connect to some wireless networks.

The only thing I can tell you is that in an ad-hoc network when too many nodes get connected the system tends to collapse. An ad-hoc is also vulnerable to intruders who can connect to the network and soon overload the system.

You may try to set everyone in a secret SSID and change the channel, and see what happens.

I don't think it has anything to do with overloading of the system. There are a few people trying to connect on at once to my friend's laptop and everyone and myself can connect just fine, but my radio turns off after a few minutes... only mine and no one else.

It also happens on 1-on-1 situations where we're trying to stay connected, it just randomly turns off.

Forgive my ignorance, but in an ad-hoc network mode, isn't there a session time?

I have no clue about the session time. Are you suggesting that if there was one my computer probably placed each ad hoc session time to only about 5 minutes?

Yes, I actually heard about 5 minutes, check that out, may be there is a way to change it.
