Here's the deal-I have tethered my phone to my computer hundreds of times. So, I recently got a new phone, went through the whole rooting process, installed a tethering app, and my computer WILL not connect to it. As I said, it has worked several times before, but now for some reason it will not.

It seems to be specific to my computer only because other Android devices and computers will connect with no problem. So-needing to do it anyway-I reformatted my computer-installed all the drivers and still, no dice.

I have no idea why it will not connect all of a sudden. Any one else have some ideas???

Have you tried changing the wireless network name?

Just tried. Same issue. Computer says "connecting to xxxxx" but never connects. Yet the computer will connect fine to my home wireless router.

I have tried several. But the 2 I always used was Barnacle (as you said) and android-wifi-tether. Both have ALWAYS worked, but now, neither will connect. It goes through the connecting steps, I get the message that 'it is taking longer than usual', then the error-Windows was unable to connect........

Unless I figure out something, I may just swap to an old crappy adapter I have at home and see if that fixes it. Wouldn't think it would be the 6300, but it might.

Well, if anyone cares, I plopped in an old DW1501 card and it worked so what is wrong with my 6300?

hmm, I have a 6230 (which is the same as the 6300 except it has 2 channels and bluetooth) and it could connect fine on android wifi tether, but won't connect on barnacle.

also, it depends on the ROM you're using. ex. if i used MIUI on mine i could connect on barnacle, but on the villain ROM i'm using now it wouldn't but it works on android-wifi-tether.

so... could be a number of things on your end as well like wifi drivers, ROM/Stock Rom and the tethering app you're using.

Interesting. What model phone do you have? And what app, in particular, are you using or have tried? Also, what type of WiFi security are you using on your phone when you're creating the hotspot network?

I have done this several times before and that is what puzzles me. I have a Motorola Milestone X2 (Droid X2) on Alltel with the stock ROM (2.3.6). The apps I have tried are Barnacle, wifi_tether, and OpenGarden. No security as far as the connection. I have tried to change the SSID and the security protocol without success.

But as soon as I put in the 1501 or the USB wireless adapter I have, they both connect and work great. Prolly just gonna put in a call to AW and see if they will send me another adapter.

    Unless someone has an idea.................

Have you tried uninstalling the device from the device manager then reinstalling? Or maybe removing all the saved WiFi network profiles?
