Well I have finally achieved 300mbps on a reading on the DIR-655 using the gigabyte wireless card that has the same chipset as the DIR-655 more here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168136

I originally had the intel 4965agn card and with the notebook 10 feet away i got these numbers
    Intel 75.2mbps download 1.5mbps upload (reads 130mbps)
Gigabyte 115.9mbps download 2.2mbps upload (reads 270 when idle and 300 when i'm transfering files odd?)

downstairs about 60 feet away and a couple of walls
    Intel 50mbps down 756kbps up
    Gigabyte 62mbps down 1.5mbps up

I did just one file transfer that was 5 gigs and also transfer and video and music playback with teh same numbers.

So as you can see there is a benefit for having the faster speeds.
