Ok - got new Acer Aspire 3610 a few weeks ago. Bought Router Belkin 802.11g to attach to my eMac. It worked fine and still does. Wireless connection setup ok on Acer and worked very well up until just before xmas when it suddenly stopped seeing any available networks. As far as I'm aware I didn't alter any settings. It just stopped seeing/detecting - sends up message saying 'there are no available networks in range' but my eMac is in the next room, and there are at least 3 others at my neighbours.

Friend came round with Acer Travelmate - set up next to mine and was able to detect immediately, so we know it's not the Router. My laptop will plug directly into router and connect to internet.

All devices are 'working' and the light at the front for wireless is flashing. I did have a AlcraB virus, but that has gone (I hope). Norton is telling me I have Bloodhound.mbr, but that's probably nothing.

We've downloaded new driver, used restore to previous point, tried repair, tried new settings, new setups - nothing!

The Acer was not moved at all, just sat on a desk. One day wireless worked, next day didn't.

    Help!! (please)

Hmm, interesting. About the virus, i would maybe do a clean install since you have had a virus before and now possible that one you don't know much about. Something i would do is go to the routers website and look for firmware/downloads and update the firmware because there maybe something along there that its software compatibility is wierd and needs to be updated. If that doesn't work, then if still under warranty, call acer because it is more than likely your wireless card then. I wish you luck!

Thanks for reply. I've also been advised to disable windows zero config as that has been known to solve issue.

Any other ideas? Acer are being useless at responding to calls "we're busy call back later" auto voice!

If you disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service, you won't have any wireless. Leave that enabled. You can change it's status by going to Start > Run > Services.msc. Change its startup type to "Automatic".

To get rid of the virus, I would boot into Safe Mode, then scan with Norton, and Ad-Aware SE - if you don't have that, be sure to download it. Reformatting your hard drive is not always necessary and in a lot of cases, a waste of time.

What wireless software is in use? I would use the built in Windows software, that is, for the most part, hassle free.
