Ok, I have the Aver Travelmate 4501WLMi on order now.
Next question is, which wireless router should I get?
I live in a 1200sf townhome and the router will be upstairs and the signal needs to be able to go downstairs as well.
Also, does it make a difference if I go with a Super-G vs Regular 802.11G?
Does the 4501WLMi even support the Super-G?
Anyone know a a good router that does not have a "brick" style power connector, maybe with the "brick" in the middle instead of the end like HP deskjets?
    Help. :)

    Cloud,

I myself use the SMC Wireless router, it's only a B router, but that's all my cards support at the moment. It's pretty good, I haven't had any issues with it since getting it. While other brands like Microsoft, USR & Netgear were tried and problems occured.

I believe how the Super G router work is that they utilize a bunch of the 2.4Ghz spectrum to send/received data. What this does is it causes other 2.4Ghz devices (phones, baby monitors, etc...) to have less frequencies to work with and therefore increased chances of interference.

The 4501WLMi doesn't support Super G, so getting a Super G router will be useless. I'd recommend getting a standard G router. Give the SMC a try, it's inexpensive and works great.

I think the USR routers have a fairly small adapter, but the router is larger than most and I've had & read a lot of problems with this router. Mainly trying to get it to work, keeps locking up. If it doesn't lock up, it won't connect to the wireless cards.

I really like Netgear's product. They've done well to shrink the unit and the power brick. As for Super G, you need a router and card that support that. The internal card likely doesn't support it out of the box, but for browsing, it won't make any difference. The bottleneck is your internet connection.

I eneded up with the Linksys WRT54G from Sam's Club for $59.99.
It was a great price for the router and all seems to work great so far.
I really enjoyed the built in support for Dynamic DNS which is great if you use Remote Desktop on your desktop computer.
Some minor gripes from people on this router, but the firmware upgrade fixes those.
